What kids learn in 4th grade

Fourth grade math stretches into multi-digit multiplication and division with remainders, numbers into the millions, rounding to any place, factors and multiples, and number patterns. Fractions grow up: equivalent fractions, comparing fractions with different denominators, adding and subtracting like fractions, and connecting tenths and hundredths to decimals. Angles, unit conversions and multi-step word problems apply it all.

In reading, fourth graders make inferences, summarize, work out vocabulary from context and explain similes and metaphors. Writing covers pronouns, fixing fragments and run-ons, commonly confused words, prepositions and progressive verb tenses. Science and life skills include energy, the water and rock cycles, and telling real content from made-up or AI-made content.
